Google figured it out first, they knew it had to be fast and thats what they actually do, make your searches faster and faster every single day. Ask.com happens to be the sixth-largest Web property in the world, drawing over 90 million unique visitors monthly. Guess what, Ask.com hopes to go back to its roots by answering questions that users ask through natural, everyday English. Ask will not rely on any sort of Artificial Intelligence, or high performance servers, but will instead rely on actual humans to field customers’ queries. Now that is some serious manpower they should be looking for and prepare for.

A new “Ask the Community” tool allows users to pose questions to a group of self-proclaimed “experts”, where there is a wide variety of fields to choose from. All responses will be delivered via e-mail, where the wait time shouldn’t be more than 10 minutes.

Sounds interesting? Wonder what folks at Google think about this.

Thermally Activated Roof Tiles

They have done it again, students from MIT have come out with a new range of energy saving roof tiles.

Black roof tiles absorb heat and white ones reflect it, how nice would it be if you could get to change the roof colors on their own based on the temperature outside! Code named Thermeleon, the new tile changes roof color based on outside temperature.

If its too hot, the tiles would turn white and if its too cold, the tiles turn black, in-effect letting maximum amount of heat from the sun get absorbed during winter and reflect the same during summer. This would translate into about a 20 percent saving on cooling costs in summer.

Tata’s Idea ads put into action

Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL), has launched a new service that allows farmers to operate their irrigation pumps remotely using a SMS-capable phone. To the likes of farmer loving politicians, this is extremely useful because the alternative often is for the farmers to walk many kilometers to the pumps, often at night because the electricity supply is a bit more reliable or scheduled.

Farmers will however have to buy a Tata Indicom mobile connection and a mobile modem that will be attached to the starter of the pump set. After registration, the subscriber (farmer) will be provided with a unique code number. Using the mobile handset, the farmer can remotely switch on and switch off the pump set with the assigned code number. The farmer can also check the on/off status as well as the availability of power by a particular tone.

Cost for this facility will be Rs 2,700 + cost of the handset. The service comprises two handsets that will be provided with the bundled offer – one installed with the device while the other remains with the farmer, all the calls made to the pump by the Tata Indicom mobile will be free.

Besides helping farmers cope with distance, what this service can offer is optimal water usage.

Google Music Service

Google-music!

Google is all set to launch their music service. This may be called Google Audio.

The earlier version of Google audio was launched initially in China. This initial service was for only for Chinese people and allowed then to search and download music for free anywhere in China. However the new Music service Google may provide soon will be very different from the Chinese version.

Google plans to launch this service in the U.S. as of now and may plan to extend it all over the world.
